You will notice below some children that look neither like Annika nor like me. They are the children of Shaun and Katie McDonnell, good friends from Wheaton College who now live in the warm sun and near the early-bird dinners of Florida. Recently, they posted half-a-million pictures that must have been brimming over the top of their Rebel XT. I don’t mean to say the digital flood wasn’t enjoyable -- quite the contrary, in fact. Katie is an excellent photographer, and Evan and Madalyn McDonnell are captivatingly beautiful; this is my only explanation for an otherwise strange decision to post a top-10 list of photos blogged by another family.
This task proved more difficult than I first intended. You see, it is a challenge to separate the inspiring nature of the subject (these gorgeous children) from the art of photography. Truly, when snapping photos of kids, some of your best shots are accidental, but there is no arguing how many great shots Katie turns out -- pretty kids or not. All of these pictures have wonderful composition, so I will only comment on a few particulars. There are many runners-up that I had to leave out -- some very sweet shots of the kids kissing, taking a monstrous bubble bath, one of Madalyn trying to cap Mom's camera, etc. Also, I left out any slightly different shots from the same poses, for variety, but they are all worth looking at.
So here it is. My individual top-10 list of the recent McDonnell photo posts. Bizarre.
10. Flower

10. Flower
9. The Story Teller
8. Eloise' Last Look
7. Creation
skin and hair so pure; this should be a sculpture
6. Ruffles

everything from the chair cover to the worn bunny -- even the light -- looks sleepy here; great capture of morning thought
4. Air-Dry

portraiture at its best; you feel like you know him from just this glance
2. Leopard Tree
another great portrait; the bold blue, the angled arms split the tree perfectly, and the bit of sky in the background breaks the symmetry just enough
1. Pilates
I just adore the frame here -- her little body doubly dissects the picture in a sideways t; even the random items on the coffee table are necessary; very cool photograph

Wow! Could I BE more flattered... or humbled?!! I'm shocked you're not instead posting an entire post making fun of me for posting a thousand pictures in one sitting... so thanks for your mercy and the many compliments. They give me entirely too much credit, but I am so relieved just to know at least one person didn't roll their eyes the ENTIRE time they were scrolling down those posts!!
Y'all have a good weekend now, ya hear?! I'm off to catch an early bird dinner... oh wait... it's seven...
Oh and by the way- I liked your titles MUCH better than mine. WAY more creative... not to mention funny.
