Colorado V -- Going Home

DSC_0191

One highlight of LEAVING Aspen is getting to drive up and over Independence Pass; this is unique to summer trips as they close the pass in the winter due to the dangerous snowfalls.  When I was young we would sometimes come up here on the weekends with sleds and slide down the snow patches...in the summer sun!  This time we just stopped and looked around with the kids and let Jack climb on the rocks...a sight that nearly caused my dad to weep with joy.  We drove directly to the Denver airport from Aspen, so this was one of our only stops during the 4+hour drive.  Enjoy the spectacular views and thanks for bearing with us as we've reminisced!
