We have been working with Jack to learn the parts of the body. He loves the song "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes," although he still only points to his head and toes. When we prompt him, he is able to point out his (and our, and Ellie's) eyes, nose, ears, hair/head, chin, cheeks, mouth, hands, feet/toes, knees, elbows, and belly button. When we finish going through all of these we say to him, "Where is Jesus?" and he pats his chest, and we say, "In your heart." I'm hoping that he doesn't someday ask a fellow toddler friend if he, too, has a "jesus." Hopefully we can explain it more fully before he's able to talk that well!
Last night, as we were watching my dad's slide presentation from the darkened lobby of the church, I was pointing to the pictures of the crucifixion (hoping they wouldn't scare him too much) and saying, "See? There's Jesus on the cross." Jack kept looking at me and patting his chest. It finally hit me that all he was hearing was Jesus, and he was showing me that Jesus was in his heart. It was such a sweet and tender moment, one that took me by surprise, and one I know my mother heart will not soon forget.
